<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a solenoid which can maintain the projected status of a push rod only with power supply to a coil in a short time by incorporating a rotary cam lock mechanism in the solenoid to maintain the projected status of the push rod without maintaining the current passage to the coil. <P>SOLUTION: The solenoid having a status maintenance function comprises a rotary cam lock mechanism incorporated in a solenoid. The rotary cam lock mechanism includes a rotary cam lock mechanism section and a magnetomotive force mechanism section. In the rotary cam lock mechanism section, a cam mechanism part having a knock cam, a lock sleeve, a spring and a cam rod is supported by upper and lower covers. The magnetomotive force section has a bobbin incorporating a plunger and a fixed iron core for receiving the plunger, a winding wound around the bobbin, a frame provided around the bobbin, a plate mounted on the upper part of the bobbin, and a spring.
