PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an ocean wave measuring instrument for measuring the traveling direction of ocean waves with high accuracy. SOLUTION: Radio waves from a plurality of positioning satellites are received by two GPS receivers 20a and 20b on a buoy floating on the sea to measure the motion of each reception point, and the attitude change and motion of the buoy 10 are found based thereon. The traveling direction of billows is detected based on the attitude change and the motion of the buoy. When the buoy 10 moves in tune with the shape change of sea level owing to the ocean waves, a direction in which the buoy is inclined is detected as the traveling direction of the ocean waves if the buoy is on the rise, for example.
