PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To accurately determine the state of an object by accurately detecting whether the object is relative moving close or away from a prescribed position through the use of a Doppler sensor. SOLUTION: This object state determining apparatus is provided with the Doppler sensor 11 having a plurality of mixers M1 and M2; a movement analyzing part 12 for analyzing whether the object is moving close or away on the basis of output of the plurality of mixers; a Doppler wave cycle detecting part 13 for detecting the occurrence of Doppler waves on the basis of output of the second mixer M2; a Doppler wave cycle counting part 14 for counting the occurrence cycles of the Doppler waves from output of the Doppler wave cycle detecting means and output of the movement analyzing part; and a state determining/controlling part 15 for determining the state (presence, separation, etc.) of the object on the basis of the changing state of count values of the Doppler wave cycle counting part.
