PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an apparatus which does not need fire-resisting construction and can form carbide in at least a part of wood chips in a short time by relatively little energy. SOLUTION: The wood chip treatment apparatus 31 is composed of an acid solution-impregnation apparatus 14 for making the wood ships 39 impregnated with an organic acid solution 36, a microwave radiation device 16 for irradiating the wood chips 39a impregnated with the organic acid solution 36 with microwaves, etc. The wood chips 39a impregnated with the organic acid solution 36 by passing through the acid solution-impregnation apparatus 14 are supplied to the microwave radiation device 16 by a charging conveyer 15, irradiated with the microwaves from a microwave generator 41, and heated in the device 16.
