PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a coating material excellent in storage stability and coating property. SOLUTION: The preparation process of an aqueous resin dispersion comprises the step of simultaneously pulverizing and dispersing by stirring a preliminary dispersion (F) of the W/O type, which is prepared by stirring a water-added highly viscous resin solution (E), where a resin having polar groups is dissolved in an organic solvent, at the shearing rate of not more than 200/sec, by using an apparatus X for the pulverizing and dispersing at the rate of not more than 400/sec. The apparatus X has a specific structure and the simultaneous process of pulverizing and dispersing is carried out under specific condition. The coating material is prepared by the above process.
