PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To realize a female plug for an optical connector having an adapter unit which is very easily attached and detached in a short time and does not necessarily require a tool for attaching and detaching operations. SOLUTION: The right hand side tip part of an adapter shaft 224 is properly engaged with bayonet lock grooves of a hook bolt 226. When the bayonet lock is released, a spring 227 presses the other tip part B toward the left direction in the figure to provide a push out function. When the part B is projected during the releasing operation of the bayonet lock, an O ring 225 is also pushed out to provide a nonslip function so that the whole body of an adapter unit U is easily pulled out by finger tips. A similar nonslip function is also observed for the spring 227. Since the unit U is simply separated by the finger tips in a short time, a ferrule 217 is widely exposed in the opening direction of a female plug shell and the end face of the tip part of the ferrule 217 is very easily cleaned.
