PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a thin display element with satisfactory image display quality and a manufacturing method of the thin display element. SOLUTION: A liquid crystal display element 1 is provided with a pair of glass substrates 11, 12, a plurality of transparent electrodes 13, 16, orientation films 14, 17, a spacer 18 which holds the glass substrates 11, 12 at a prescribed interval, and a seal layer 20 which performs airtight joining of the glass substrates 11, 12 at margins of the glass substrates 11, 12 and fills the inside of the joined glass substrates with liquid crystal 21. As for the glass substrate 11, thickness is 0.3 mm, plane surface transmissivity is 91.5 %, and haze ratio is 0.4 %, and as for the glass substrate 12, thickness is 0.3 mm, plane surface transmissivity is 91.6 %, and haze ratio is 0.4 %.
