PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus that further prevents scattering of a toner image transferred to the surface of an intermediate transfer belt. SOLUTION: The image forming apparatus forms an image in such a manner that a toner image formed on a photoreceptor drum 1 is primarily transferred in a primary transfer section to the intermediate transfer belt 9 rotatably supported by tension rollers 10, 11, 12, 13, and 14, and then the toner image on the intermediate transfer belt 9 is secondarily transferred to a transfer medium. In the image forming apparatus, a downstream destaticizing means 22 for destaticizing the intermediate transfer belt 9 is disposed near a tension roller 11 and, in the rotating direction of the belt 9, downstream of the tension roller 11 with which the intermediate transfer belt 9 passed through the primary transfer section comes into contact first.
