PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To stop coating work without drying or solidifying the protective layer-forming material remaining on a roller when a vehicle not applying the protective layer-forming material is continuously transferred. SOLUTION: A robot capable of being moved according to teaching is provided near a transfer line on which a plurality of vehicles are transferred successively. A roller comprising a material capable of absorbing the protective layer-forming material to store the same is provided to the robot in a freely rotatable manner. A control part for controlling the robot receives production control data from a production control data supply part to recognize the number of continuously transferred non-coating trucks on the basis of the production control data (step S201) and is constituted so as to humidify the roller when the continuously transferred non-coating truck is three or more (step S20) and to stop humidification to perform warming-up operation when the continuously transferred non-coating truck is two (step S207).
