The road vehicle headlamp (1) has a light unit (2) with a reflector (3) and a gas discharge lamp inside a framework (4). The framework holds a lens (5) in front of the reflector and holds a starter circuit (8) at the back of the reflector. The lamp assembly may have a spring clip arrangement holding the housing for the starter circuit.
