<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a small-sized electrochemical device which can be miniaturized and stably used for a long time, and to provide a method of generating electrochemical energy using the electrochemical device. <P>SOLUTION: The electrochemical device 1 comprises a first electrode 2, a second electrode 3, and an electrolyte 5 interposed between the electrodes, of which the electrolyte 5 is composed of an alkaline liquid containing MBH<SB>4</SB>(M is an alkali metal element), and is provided with a means supplying oxygen-containing gas 6 to the first electrode 2. The method of generating electrochemical energy is composed of a process of generating hydroxylic ion by making oxygen molecules react with water molecules in the electrolyte 5 under supply of electrons generated at the second electrode 3 by supplying the oxygen-containing gas 6 to the first electrode 2, and making the hydroxy ions move toward the second electrode 3 side through the electrolyte 5 by using the electrochemical device 1, and a process of generating water by making the MBH<SB>4</SB>react with the hydroxy ions at the second electrode side, and taking out electrochemical energy between the first and second electrodes 2, 3 by taking out electron from the second electrode 3. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI |
