<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a packet network output band design method and apparatus for estimating a minimum output band for satisfying a packet loss target rate without the need for especially assuming a traffic model. <P>SOLUTION: The packet network output band design method sets one buffer threshold value to an output transmission wait buffer to satisfy a predetermined packet loss rate in a packet network and sets a counter corresponding to the buffer threshold value. At the arrival of a packet, when a queue length of the packet resident in the output transmission wait buffer, not including the number of bytes of the arrived packet, exceeds the threshold value, the count of the corresponding counter is incremented, the queue length not including the number of bytes of the arrived packet is counted and summed when the queue length exceeds the threshold value, the number of packets arriving in the output transmission wait buffer for measurement period T and the packet length are counted, and the output band for satisfying the target packet loss rate is calculated from the count, the queue length when exceeding the threshold value, the number of packets and the number of bytes arriving within the measurement time period T. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI</p> |
