PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a display panel driving method capable of reducing power consumption in a sustaining process. SOLUTION: In the period of the sustaining process, an output terminal of a column electrode driving circuit connected to a column electrode of a display panel is held at a high impedance state. An X sustain signal is used as a pulse signal of double polarities, the rise start time of a negative polarity pulse is set longer than the rise completion time of a positive polarity pulse in each half cycle and the trailing start time of the positive polarity pulse is set longer than the trailing completion time of the negative polarity pulse. A Y sustain signal is obtained by shifting the phase of the X sustain signal by a half cycle. It is also available to reverse the polarities of the pulses. COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI
