PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a system changeover function not requiring a standby-dedicated resource that is normally in nonoperation state, in a database management system, especially in a parallel database management system using a Shared nothing architecture. SOLUTION: Information showing a relation of substitution for processing the other DB server in a down state is registered. In the case that a certain DB server required with processing breaks down when receiving an inquiry from a user and requiring the processing to the DB server, a substituting server is acquired from the information showing the relation of the substitution, and changes a requirement destination of the processing. A direction for the substitution is added to the requirement. The DB server receiving the requirement decides the direction for the substitution. When the direction is present, the DB server executes the data processing in substitution for the breaking-down server. Thereby, without requiring the standby-dedicated resource that does not operate in a normal time, this database processing method and the system allowing the quick resumption of DB processing service when a failure occurs can be provided.
