PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image display device capable of obtaining an excellent image of stable quality by controlling the temperature of a display means. SOLUTION: The image display device which when displaying an image by applying a digitized image signal to a display means 6 where a plurality of pixels are arranged in matrix, composes one field of the image signal of a plurality of subfields and selectively turning on or off the subfields in the array order to display the image based upon the image signal is equipped with a temperature detection part 7 which detects the temperature of the display means, a cooling means 9 of cooling the display means, and a control means 11 of controlling the cooling means according to the detected value of the temperature detecting means so that the display means has specified temperature.
