PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To conduct stably and inexpensively carburizing a material to be treated at high speed, in the process of supplying a carrier gas including CO into a treatment furnace, and carburizing the material after the steps of heating, carburization and diffusion. SOLUTION: The carburizing apparatus comprises a treatment furnace 2 for carburizing the material 1 to be treated, and a carrier gas-supplying device 10 for supplying the carrier gas including CO into the treatment furnace. The carburizing method comprises supplying the carrier gas including CO into the treatment furnace, and carburizing the material 1 after the steps of the heating, the carburization and the diffusion, wherein a CO concentration in the carrier gas supplied into the treatment furnace is enhanced only during the carburization.
