PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a vacuum cleaner which has a small-sized dust collector, and to provide the dust collector. SOLUTION: The vacuum cleaner is formed of a suction head body 2, a cleaner body 3 communicating with the suction head body 2, and a dust collecting space 8 defined in the cleaner body 3. The dust collecting space 8 has a second cylinder body 23 arranged about the center thereof, and the second cylinder body 23 has an exhaust cylinder 30 arranged about the center thereof. Further the second cylinder body 23 has a communication hole 26 formed therein for communicating with a space between the second cylinder body 23 and the exhaust cylinder 30, and a swirl generating means 32 for swirling air introduced from the communication hole 26 into the space between the second cylinder body 23 and the exhaust cylinder 30. Furthermore the second cylinder body 23 has a discharge port 27 for discharging dust separated from the swirl in the space between the second cylinder body 23 and the exhaust cylinder 30, to the outside of the second cylinder body 23.
