A process for producing an oxirane compound, characterized by treating with hydrogen peroxide either in the presence of an olefin oxidation catalyst prepared from an organic compound or polymer represented by the following formula (1): a tungstic acid compound, phosphoric acid, hydrogen peroxide, and a quaternary ammonium salt represented by the following formula (2) or (3): or in the presence of an olefin oxidation catalyst prepared from an organic compound or polymer represented by the formula (1), a tungsten compound, and a quaternary ammonium salt represented by the formula (2) or (3). The production process is useful especially industrially.
