PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To raise the SN ratio of the read-out signal of a servo signal. SOLUTION: In a magnetic tape MT1 in which a servo signal SS1 for performing the tracking control of a magnetic head H is written in a servo band SB1 and data are recorded in a data band DB1, after the servo band SB1 is magnetized to any one direction of the longitudinal direction of the magnetic tape MT1, a servo signal SS1 is written in the servo band by magnetizing the servo band SB1 to a direction opposite to that of the magnetized direction of the servo band.
