SURFACE-MODIFIED CARBON FIBER AND METHOD FOR PRODUCING THE SAME

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a carbon fiber capable of forming a carbon fiber-reinforced conjugate material improved in adhesiveness between the carbon fiber and a matrix resin and excellent in mechanical strengths. SOLUTION: The surface-modified carbon fiber in which a carbon fiber surface is modified with a vinyl ester-based polymer (A) having a function group capable of reacting with a functional group existing on the surface of a carbon fiber and further, the surface is modified with a compound (B) having a functional group capable of reacting with a functional group which the polymer (A) has and having a functional group capable of reacting with the matrix resin is used as the carbon fiber used for carbon fiber-reinforced conjugate material containing the carbon fiber and the matrix resin.
