PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To hold a front curtain in a non-energized state so as to be in a superposed state and a developed state in an initial position set state. SOLUTION: In a focal plane shutter equipped with an opening lever 6, a closing lever 5 and a set lever 3 setting the levers at initial positions, the opening lever 6 is constituted by superposing and coaxially supporting a 1st opening lever 7 and a 2nd opening lever 8. The lever 8 supports the driving arm 13 of the front curtain 14 so as to rock, and follows the lever 7 when the lever 7 turns the front curtain in a superposing direction. The lever 8 can be rocked by an actuator 17 capable of holding the lever 8 in a non-energized state at a specified position. An image frame 1a can be kept totally open while keeping the lever 7 in a charged state by the actuator 17. Thus, power consumption is made low and a time lag and noise are reduced.
