A device (31) for shear mixing comprising a mixing chamber (32) having a flow inlet (34), a flow outlet (36), and swirl means (2), characterised in that the flow inlet (34) projects into the mixing chamber (32) and the swirl means (2) includes flow guiding surfaces associated with the flow inlet which are adapted to impart a swirling motion to a fluid flow entering the mixing chamber (32) through the flow inlet (34).
