An ecologically acceptable, nature-friendly water treatment composition (A) contains one or more of components, active agents and/or microorganisms having purifying action, bacteria, fungi, yeasts, minerals, vitamins, enzymes 'and/or the like' (sic). An independent claim is also included for corresponding apparatus, comprising a container (11), a housing (12), a water inlet (13), a water outlet (14) and an insert (15) having an opening (18) in which a carrier (17) for the agent (A) is located, such that the surface of (A) is at least partially washed over by the flowing water.
