PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an inverted microscope which allows three or more optical paths to be reserved as photographic optical paths and is useful in research fields such as life science to meet the demand for various researches. SOLUTION: The inverted microscope is provided with; a light source 3 for generating illuminating light; an illumination optical system 4 for irradiating a sample 9 with light generated by the light source 3 to; an objective lens 11 which is arranged in opposition to the sample 9 and on which object light from the sample 9 is made incident; light branching means 16 and 22 which are arranged on an optical path between a primary image formed by the objective lens 11 and the objective lens 11 and branch light passing the objective lens 11 in three or more directions different from one another; an observation optical path 23 on which light branched by light branching means 16 and 22 is made incident; and three or more photographic optical paths 17a, 17b, 17c and 17d on which light branched by light branching means 16 and 22 is made incident. One of photographic optical paths 17a, 17b, 17c and 17d can be branched to a lower optical path of light branching means 16 and 22, and the plurality of photographic optical paths 17a, 17b, 17c and 17d including the lower optical path 17d can be simultaneously used.
