PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide technology capable of securing color separation property without increasing the number of components, in an image display device using color separation elements. SOLUTION: In the image display device, a holding part for supporting the end parts of the color separation elements such as dichroic mirrors 10 and 11 is constituted so that the inclination of each color separation surface of each color separation element 7R, 7G, and 7B with reference to the optical axis is made variable. Besides, the holding part for holding the end part of the color separation element and a holding part for holding the end parts of reflection mirrors 12, 13, and 14 for reflecting the color light color-separated by the color separation elements toward a display element are separately constituted so that the inclination angles of the color separation surface of the color separation element and the reflection surface of the reflection mirror with reference to the optical axis are made variable within the range of maintaining the mutual parallelism.
