PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a surface emitting laser element of a long wavelength band having a wavelength of 1,260 nm or more, which is excellent in temperature characteristic and is designed with the optimum detuning amount. SOLUTION: In a surface emitting laser element of 1,300 nm band, a detuning amount is set at a value within a range of 14-20 nm, or a matching temperature is set at a value within a range of 60-75°C. Also, in the surface emitting laser element of 1,550 nm band, a detuning amount is set at a value within the range of 16-25 nm, or a matching temperature is set at a value within the range of 60-85°C.
