PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a connector and an inspection device capable of accurately detecting a mounting position of a retainer. SOLUTION: A female terminal fitting can be inserted in a female housing 20 from the rear. The retainer 40 is provided with a slip preventing part locking into the female terminal fitting when it is mounted at an normal locking position, and is obliquely moved in relation to the inserting direction of the female fitting, and an angle made by its moving direction to the inserting direction of the female terminal fitting is set to about 35 degrees. The retainer 40 is provided with an acceptance recess 54 capable of accepting the detecting part 68 of the inspection device 60 when it is at the normal locking position. The front rim part of the acceptance recess 54 is made to be a part 55 to be detected against which a region horizontally running along the detecting part 68 runs, when the retainer 40 is at an incomplete mounting position, and the receiving action of a connector C is regulated by this running-against. The part 55 to be detected permits the receiving action of the connector C, since it is disposed by being horizontally shifted from the detecting part 68 when the retainer is at the normal locking position.
