PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image display device for improving image quality and atmospheric pressure resistance strength, and to provide a forming die used for manufacturing the spacer assembly of the image display device. SOLUTION: The image display comprises a first substrate 10 having a fluorescent surface, and a second substrate that is arranged opposingly with a gap to the first substrate and has a plurality of electron sources 18. The spacer assembly 22 for supporting an atmospheric pressure load operating on the substrates is provided between the first and second substrates. The spacer assembly comprises a flat grid, a plurality of first spacers 30a erected on the first surface of the grid, and a plurality of second spacers 30b erected on the second surface of the grid. Each of the first and second spacers is formed in a stepping state having a plurality of steps from a grid to an extension end, and the sectional shape of at least one step of the first and second spacers differs from that of other steps on a section in parallel with the surface of the grid.
