PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent the clogging of a condenser in a vacuum dehydration method. SOLUTION: This vacuum sludge drying apparatus has a means for heating sludge 3 in a vacuum distillation vessel 4 to distill off moisture and drying the heated sludge 3 in a fine powdery form, a means for condensing distilled water under vacuum 15 by a condenser 16 and a means for providing a disc filter between the vacuum distillation vessel 4 and the condenser 16 to remove the dry fine powder adhering to the disc filter. In the vacuum sludge drying method, the operation of the disc filter 23 is performed by allowing the sludge 3 to flow backward at the time of stop of distillation/condensation. Further, the vacuum distillation vessel 4 for heating the sludge 3 to distill off moisture and drying the same in the fine powdery form and the condenser 16 for condensing the distilled water under vacuum 15 are provided and the disc filter 23 for removing the adhering dry fine powder between the vacuum distillation vessel 4 and the condenser 16 is systematized.
