FIELD: carbon materials. ^ SUBSTANCE: original carbon-containing material is dispersed in a liquid medium to form transparent disperse medium, through which spatially oriented monochromatic linearly polarized optic (laser) light beam is passed and simultaneously constant magnetic field is applied to the medium to induce double refraction. Using curve for double refraction plotted against intensity of magnetic field, presence of carbon nanotubes in the medium is revealed. When comparing with similar characteristic in reference sample, content of desired fraction in the medium is estimated and this fraction is isolated by sedimentation. ^ EFFECT: established nature of dependence of induced double refraction on magnetic field intensity facilitating isolation of desired carbon nanotube fraction without much expenses. ^ 9 cl, 8 dwg
