PURPOSE: An enzymatic method for preparing optically active 1,2-diol derivatives and esters thereof are provided, thereby cheaply preparing high purity of optically active 1,2-diol derivatives and esters thereof in higher yield by using a cheap starting material. CONSTITUTION: The enzymatic method for preparing optically active 1,2-diol derivatives of formula (2) and esters thereof of formula (3) comprises converting primary alcohol group of the alcohol compound of formula (1) into tosyl group or nosyl group; and stereo-selectively esterifying the tosyl group or nosyl group of the alcohol compound of formula (1) in organic solvent or nonsolvent in the presence of lipase as catalyst using acyl donor, wherein X is tosyl or nosyl; and R is CH3, CH3CH2 or ClCH2.
