This invention facilitates an operation after save recording of data in a hard disc if a residual capacity of a DVD is lessened while the data is recorded in the DVD. If it is detected that the residual capacity of the DVD is lessened while a program is recorded in the DVD, then save recording of the program in the hard disc is started, and the recording of the program in the DVD is stopped. If it is detected that the DVD is ejected and exchanged to a new DVD, the recording of the program in the new DVD is automatically started. While continuing the save recording of the program in the hard disc, the save-recorded program is time-shift reproduced from the beginning. The program reproduced from the hard disc is splice-recorded in the DVD. <IMAGE>
