PURPOSE: A method and an apparatus for driving a plasma display panel are provided to reduce the amount of light and improve the contrast by lowering the voltage values of the rising ramp waveform during the initial periods of the remaining subfields except for the first subfield. CONSTITUTION: In a method for driving a plasma display panel, one frame includes a first to n-th subfield and each sub field includes an initialization period. The method for driving the plasma display panel includes a process of supplying a first rising ramp waveform and a process of supplying a second rising ramp waveform. The process of supplying rising ramp waveform supply has an initial voltage value during the initial period of the first subfield and the process of supplying second rising ramp waveform different voltage values from the initial voltage value during the initial periods of the second to the nth subfields. The voltage value of the rising ramp waveform applied to the first subfield is higher than that of the rising ramp waveforms applied to the remaining subfields.
