PURPOSE: A method for calculating a link clock rate and a pixel/audio clock rate is provided to simultaneously transmit at least one packet stream in a virtual pipe established in a physical link. CONSTITUTION: A packet-based display interface connects a multimedia sink device(204) including a transmitter unit, combined with a source device arranged to receive source packet data conforming the original stream rate, to a multimedia source device(202). A receiver unit(104) is connected with the sink device. A linking unit connects the transmitter unit with the receiver unit to transmit a multimedia data packet stream composed of multimedia data packets based on a source packet conforming a link rate independent of the original stream rate between the transmitter unit and the receiver unit. Four variables based on a master frequency of 23.76GHz represents a link rate and pixel/audio rate. A pixel/audio clock is regenerated from the link clock.
