A target value displacement amount (xt) regarding a displacement amount (x) when displacing a valve body (19) from a fully closed position to a fully open position or from the fully open position to the fully closed position is memorized in a memory of an ECU (50). The target displacement amount xt is determined as the displacement amount when opening and closing the valve body under the condition that the valve body is affected only by the frictional resistance (Ff) but not affected by an external force (Fp) varying in accordance with an engine operation condition. The ECU calculates a feedback electric current Ib based on a deviation ( DELTA x) between the displacement amount (x) and the target value displacement amount (xt) (i.e., Step S110-S180) and controls the energization of the electromagnet based on a driving current I calculated as the sum of the FB current (Ib) and a feed forward electric current (If) for canceling the residual electromagnetic force of the electromagnet for actuating the valve (i.e., Step S190, S200). <IMAGE>
