PURPOSE: An UPnP(Universal Plug and Play) PLC(Power Line Communication) adapter and a method for controlling the same are provided to control PLC devices, which cannot support UPnP, through UPnP. CONSTITUTION: An UPnP PLC adapter(100) consists of a PLC command processing module, a PLC state receiving module, an UPnP discovery server module, an UPnP description server module, an UPnP control server module, and an UPnP event server module. The UPnP PLC adapter(100) makes a virtual PLC route device for PLC devices(500-530) on a PLC network and announces it to the UPnP CPs(Control Points)(200,210) of an UPnP network(300). The PLC command processing module sends a command to a PLC device and receives a response. The PLC state receiving module receives a state change from a PLC device. The UPnP discovery server module receives a search message from an UPnP CP and sends a response message for the virtual PLC route device. The UPnP description server module modifies the description of the virtual PLC route device in case that an additional PLC device is found out or an existing PLC device is removed. The UPnP control server module receives an UPnP control message from an UPnP CP and converts it into a relevant PLC command. The UPnP event server module receives an event registration request message from an UPnP CP and sends an associated response message.
