The support (20) has at least one support surface (35, 36) for the rail (1), at least two support parts (21, 22) which are movable relative to each other, a coupling device (60) for holding the support parts into position and a locking device (70) for fixing the support parts into position. Each support part includes a fixing arm (31, 32) extending upwards from the support surface so that the arms are bent towards each other. The coupling device is used to hold the support parts in a position where the distance between the ends of the arms is relatively large, preferably greater than the diameter of the rail, when the rail is being mounted on the support. The locking device fixes the arms into position when the distance between them is only slightly greater than the rail diameter. The locking device comprises a click-fit connection and the coupling device preferably comprises a click-fit connection too.
