A bearing unit (20) supports the rotary shaft in a freely rotatable manner. The rotary shaft has an axial flange (34), distanced from both ends. A radial dynamic pressure generating area is present between bearing unit and outer peripheral surface of rotary shaft. A thrust dynamic pressure generating area is present between the bearing unit and the flange. Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) A method of constructing a spindle motor; and (2) An information storage device.
