PURPOSE: A safe traveling apparatus for a heavy construction equipment is provided to prevent accidents from wrong operation of the travel pedal or the lever in starting the engine by installing the locking unit to the traveling apparatus. CONSTITUTION: A traveling apparatus is composed of a main pump(1) connected to an engine(17), a pilot pump(2), travel motors(12,13) connected to the main pump and driven left or right in supplying actuating fluid, a main control valve(15) installed between the main pump and the travel motors to control operation, stop or direction change of the travel motors, a travel lever and lever(4,5), a linkage connected to the lower part of the travel lever to switch the spool of the main control valve, a locking unit(7) detachably installed to the lower part of the travel lever, a hydraulic cylinder(6) assembling and disassembling the locking unit from the travel lever according to the pilot signal pressure from the pilot pump, and a control unit installed between the pilot pump and the hydraulic cylinder to control the pilot signal pressure.
