ANTIMICROBIAL PROTEIN GENE ISOLATED FROM LARVAE OF SPODOPTERA LITURA WHICH IS USEFUL FOR STUDIES ON STRUCTURE AND FUNCTION OF PROTEIN OR PEPTIDE DERIVED FROM INSECTS

PURPOSE: A antimicrobial protein gene isolated from larvae of Spodoptera litura is provided, which is useful for studies on structure and function of protein or peptide derived from insects having antimicrobial activity. CONSTITUTION: The antimicrobial protein gene isolated from larvae of Spodoptera litura is provided, wherein the antimicrobial protein gene is isolated by the steps of: introducing Escherichia coli into the larvae of Spodoptera litura to induce antimicrobial activity; isolating the total RNA from the larvae of Spodoptera litura; preparing cDNA(complementary DNA) using the total RNA as a template and reverse transcriptase; PCR amplifying a portion of the gene encoding the antimicrobial protein using a primer prepared by using the conservative amino acid of previously known antimicrobial protein; cloning the PCR amplified gene into a vector pCRII-TOP0 and sequencing the gene; and isolating the total gene of the antimicrobial protein using rapid amplification of cDNA ends and sequencing the total gene.
