PURPOSE: An electrical connector is provided to securely connect a flexible printed circuit with a contact of the electrical connector even when the height of the contact portion of the contact is changed or the flexible printed circuit has hardness. CONSTITUTION: An electrical connector(1) includes a plurality of contacts(15) each of which has an elastically extensible slot into which a flexible printed circuit is inserted, and an insulating housing(4) having a plurality of accommodating holes(44) each of which accommodates the slot of each contact. Each contact includes a main body(41), a fixed beam(43) closely fit in a fixed hole of the housing, and an elastic beam(45) extended from the main body into the corresponding accommodating hole of the housing. The elastic beam includes the first piece(47) extended in parallel with the fixed beam, and the second piece(48) bent at the front end of the first piece to define the slot between the first and second pieces. A pressing member for pressing the flexible printed circuit being inserted into the slot against the contact portion of the first piece with elastic repulsion is located at the front end of the second piece. When the flexible printed circuit is not inserted into the slot, a small gap is formed between the first piece and a wall opposite to the first piece.
