PURPOSE: A method for judging a disk in a DVD player is provided to detect and read data for a currently inserted disk according to inputted disk information if a distinction for a kind of the inserted disk fails. CONSTITUTION: When a predetermined disk is inserted into a DVD player(S200), a controller decides whether a disk surface and a data layer are detected through a disk judge(S202,S204). If so, the controller compares a CD threshold value with a preset value(S206). If the CD threshold value is more than the preset value, the controller sets a CD mode(S204). If the threshold value is less than the preset value, the controller sets the DVD player to a DVD mode(S208). The controller decides whether the second data layer is detected(S210). If so, the controller sets the DVD player to a DVD dual mode(S212).
