SIGNAL PROCESSING APPARATUS AND METHOD FOR REDUCING NOISE OF VIDEO SIGNAL

PURPOSE: A signal processing apparatus and method are provided to carry out noise reduction suitable for an input video signal by selecting a motion-compensated video signal or a previous frame video signal in response to the input video signal. CONSTITUTION: A motion vector detector(33) detects a motion vector using an input video signal and the video signal of a previous field one field ahead of the input video signal. A motion compensator(34) carries out motion correction on the previous field video signal using the motion vector to generate a motion-compensated video signal. A reference image setting unit(35) selects one of the video signal of a previous frame one frame ahead of the input video signal and the motion-compensated video signal as a reference video signal. A selection controller(43) controls the selecting operation of the reference image setting unit. A correction controller(36) detects a noise component from differentiation between the input video signal and the reference video signal and corrects the level of the input video signal in response to the noise component.
