Process for treatment and storage of water using components made of recycled rubber (A). Process for treatment and storage of water using components made of recycled rubber (A), particularly for purification of polluted water or sludges by removing pollutants, especially heavy metals, nitrates and hydrocarbons present in effluent from agricultural, industrial and urban installations such as refineries, metallurgical factories, farms and waste-water purification plants. The polluted water (9) is poured on to sized chips (1) of rubber coated with an active agent (8) and retained in a pond. (1) are produced from used tires or scrap rubber conveyor belts and after use are burnt in cement factories, incinerators or together with domestic refuse. Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) device for the new process comprising a filtration pond (11), fitted with a pipe for supplying polluted water and, at the base, a pipe for recovering purified water, and includes baskets of wire mesh filled with (1); and (2) device for storing pure water produced by the new method, or drinking water from some other source.
