PURPOSE: A method and a device are provided to facilitate penetration of a septal wall at a fossa ovalis by using a penetrating device, and accurately identify position of fossa ovalis. CONSTITUTION: A method comprises a first step of providing a sheath(120) including a main body(120a), wherein the main body has a lumen extended through the main body, and an end(122) with an opening, a position sensor(128) for generating signals for indicating position of the end, and one or more electrodes(124,125); a second step of controlling the sheath to a septal wall by using the position sensor; and a third step of identifying a fossa ovalis in the septal wall by using one or more electrodes of the sheath.
