METHOD AND APPARATUS FOR DETERMINING 4x4 INTRA LUMINANCE PREDICTION MODE

PURPOSE: A method and an apparatus for determining a 4x4 intra luminance prediction mode are provided to apply only certain modes without applying 9 modes, perform prediction, and determine an optimal 4x4 intra luminance prediction mode. CONSTITUTION: A prediction performing unit(1110) applies a certain prediction mode, performs prediction with respect to a certain block, and outputs a prediction sample. A residue calculating unit(1120) calculates residue with respect to the prediction sample. A residue comparing unit(1130) compares residues received from the residue calculating unit, selects a prediction mode with the minimum residue, and outputs the selected prediction mode.
