PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a lighting apparatus, for an image scanner having a plurality of inverter lighting light sources, that uniformizes the luminous quantities of the light sources by shifting the phases of AC currents supplied to the light sources. SOLUTION: The lighting apparatus is characterized in to shift a phase of an inverter output current 8 from a phase of an inverter output current 7 by a half period. The waveform of the luminous quantity of a fluorescent light 9 introduced from an output waveform of the inverter output current 7 is shifted from the waveform of the luminous quantity of a fluorescent light 10 introduced from an output waveform of the inverter output current 8 by a half period. The luminous quantity emitted to an original is the sum of the luminous quantities of the fluorescent lights 9, 10 and uniformized with the time without causing any periodic change.
