In step S94, a minimum angle-switching time is calculated from the jump time and the data read rate and, in step S95, the size of the minimum angle-switching unit is determined according to the minimum angle-switching time and the AV stream rate. In step S96, the number of minimum angle-switching units within the jump distance is calculated and, in step S97, the number of angles that can be recorded is checked. In step S99, a method is selected that continuously records the largest amount of data for a required number of angles. The present invention is applicable to a recording/playback device.
