PURPOSE: An apparatus and a method for driving a plasma display panel are provided to maintain the pause time of all frames approximately same by changing the width of the scan pulse corresponding to the average picture level step. CONSTITUTION: An apparatus for driving a plasma display panel includes an average picture level(APL) unit(62), an APL sensing unit(68) and a waveform generating unit(64). The APL unit(62) generates the APL signals by using the data inputted thereto. The APL signal has N number of steps inversely proportional to the number of the sustain pulses, N being a natural number. The APL sensing unit(68) generates the control signal corresponding to the APL signal. The waveform generating unit(64) generates the timing control signal to control the scan integrated circuit corresponding to the APL signal. And, the apparatus is characterized in that the waveform generating unit(64) determines the width of the scan pulse corresponding to the control signal supplied from the APL sensing unit(68). |
