<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical pickup device which is relatively inexpensive and can be made small. <P>SOLUTION: This optical pickup device capable of performing at least reproduction between information reproduction and recording from/to two types of optical disks with different recording densities is equipped with first and second semiconductor lasers (LD-DVD and LD-CD), a beam splitter (P-BSP) and a front monitor (FMPD). The beam splitter (P-BSP) is provided with a first surface (S11) which has a plate-shape and is a first surface (S11) being one outer plate face and a second surface (S12) being an inner face of the first surface (S11). On the first and second surfaces (S11 and S12), an optical film for reflecting a portion of incident light and allowing the remaining part to transmit is formed. The first surface (S11) divides a first laser beam into first reflected light and first transmitted light in a prescribed intensity ratio.
